Build the second line.
Second Line Bets is a small team building in-game bet analytics with a public, append-only record. We are early, remote, and hiring the people who will own whole parts of the company. Every role below carries equity; salary is discussed with each applicant directly.

Own the voice. Second Line sells a disciplined read on live games to people who bet them, and the voice has to earn trust in a category built on hype. You run every word members and prospects see: the site, the pick copy, the game-day content, the public record narrative, video and social. You report to the founder.
- Set and enforce the editorial standard: plain, quantitative, never a lock, never a guarantee, losers counted.
- Build the game-day content engine: live-game threads, post-game receipts, weekly ledger reviews, the newsletter.
- Turn the research into content people can follow without giving away the method: what a grade means, why PASS is an answer, why one position per market.
- Run video and social from zero: formats, cadence, hosts, and the numbers behind them.
- Own the how-it-works surface with product and engineering, and the source notes behind every grade.
- Hire and manage writers, editors and producers as the audience grows.
- Ten or more years in sports media, betting content or financial media, with at least three running a team.
- You have written for bettors and know the difference between a pick and a claim.
- Fluent in the numbers: hit rate, return per position, break-even at −110, confidence intervals. You will not publish a figure you cannot defend.
- Comfortable with compliance: 21+, responsible gambling, state-by-state wagering law, and what a tout is not allowed to say.
- You can produce a live-game thread at 1 p.m. on a Sunday and edit a 4,000-word explainer on Tuesday.
- Sportsbook, DFS or betting-media background.
- On-camera experience.
Equity potential of 0.5% – 2%, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff. Salary is discussed individually with each applicant and is not published. Remote, with availability on NFL game days.

Take a paid product with a public record to its first ten thousand members, without a single word we would regret. You own growth: acquisition, partnerships with media and creators, affiliate and referral programs, lifecycle, pricing tests, and the relationships with the operators and data providers our members use. You report to the founder.
- Build the acquisition engine: creator and affiliate partnerships, paid where it pays back, referral, lifecycle email and SMS.
- Negotiate and manage partnerships with sports media, podcasts, betting communities and tools.
- Own retention: onboarding, the first game day, the first losing week, the annual upgrade.
- Run pricing and packaging experiments across Member and Desk with product.
- Stand up analytics for the funnel and report it weekly with the same honesty the record page uses.
- Keep every campaign inside the language rules: no locks, no guarantees, no compounding projections.
- Ten or more years in growth or partnerships for a subscription or consumer fintech product, with real P&L ownership.
- You have taken a paid product from launch to scale and can show the numbers.
- A network in sports media, betting or creator economy you can activate in the first ninety days.
- You understand affiliate economics and the regulatory lines around gambling marketing in the US.
- Analytical to the point of being annoying about attribution.
- Experience marketing to bettors or DFS players.
- Operator or affiliate-network background.

Join as one of the first engineers with a founder's stake in the outcome. The engine already prices every NFL game live, publishes a timestamped ledger, and delivers picks to members; the next two seasons are about scale, latency, new sports and the member experience during a game. You will own large parts of the system end to end and help shape how the team is built.
- Own the live pipeline: collection, pricing, alerting and delivery from kickoff to final, at 15-second resolution.
- Design the path from one sport to four without rewriting the engine.
- Build the member experience during a game: the desk, delivery, fills, updates, the ledger.
- Set engineering practice: tests against fixtures, walk-forward validation, append-only records, reproducible research.
- Interview and hire the engineers who come after you.
- Seven or more years building production systems, with at least one thing you built that had to work at a specific minute.
- Fluent in Python and TypeScript; comfortable with pandas, a message pipeline, AWS, and a modern React stack.
- You have shipped data products where being wrong costs money, and you know how to check.
- You want ownership more than a title, and you can work with a founder who reads the code.
- Sports data, market data or trading-systems background.
- Experience with Next.js on Vercel, DynamoDB, Stripe.
Equity potential of 1% – 2%, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff. Salary is discussed individually with each applicant and is not published. Remote, with availability on NFL game days.

The edge is latency. You own the stack that gets a decision from a live game state to a member's phone inside a minute, and the measurement that proves it did: collection, pricing, event triggers, delivery, and the obtainability record.
- Own the live collectors, the pick monitor and the delivery job: uptime, latency, credits, failure modes.
- Measure end-to-end latency and fill quality per pick and per book, and drive them down.
- Build the streaming path from the engine to the desk (SSE or WebSocket) and the update history per position.
- Harden the box: supervision, alarms, deploys, recovery from a lost slate.
- Extend the pipeline to the next sport with the same guarantees.
- Five or more years in backend or infrastructure engineering with real on-call experience.
- Python, Linux, Docker, AWS; comfortable reading a pandas pipeline and a supervisor script.
- You measure before you tune and you write the test that would have caught the last outage.
- Odds feeds, exchange or trading infrastructure.
- Go or Rust for the hot path.
Equity potential of 0.25% – 1%, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff. Salary is discussed individually with each applicant and is not published. Remote, with availability on NFL game days.

You own what members touch: the desk during a game on a phone, the ledger, the performance page, onboarding and billing. Dense, fast, calm; a pick has to be readable with one thumb while a game is on.
- Own the Next.js app: the desk, game detail, inbox, ledger, account, sign-up and checkout.
- Build the mobile desk: bottom navigation, the fill-logging sheet, per-position updates, push.
- Keep the marketing site honest and fast: the story, the evidence, the record.
- Instrument what members do during games and turn it into product decisions.
- Own accessibility, performance budgets and reduced-motion paths.
- Five or more years in front-end or full-stack engineering; expert in React and TypeScript, strong in CSS.
- You have shipped consumer products people use under time pressure.
- Comfortable with Auth.js, Stripe, DynamoDB or similar; you can own a route handler as well as a component.
- Canvas, WebGL or motion work.
- Sports or fintech consumer products.
Equity potential of 0.25% – 1%, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff. Salary is discussed individually with each applicant and is not published. Remote, with availability on NFL game days.
Apply for Lead Engineer, Product →Quantitative Researcher, In-Game MarketsRESEARCH · FULL TIME · REMOTEEquity 0.1% – 0.5%OPEN ▾
Extend the research that the product is built on. We have four seasons of in-play prices, twenty-five seasons of play-by-play, a catalog of several hundred documented experiments, and a discipline: pre-stated kill criteria, controls that must reproduce a published number, walk-forward by season, real posted prices. You add to it, and you retract when the data says so.
- Run the research queue: new triggers, new markets, new sports, calibration, capacity and obtainability.
- Build and grade challengers in shadow against the live champion.
- Own the backtest artefacts and the evidence sentences behind every grade.
- Write the doc for every result, negative ones included.
- Graduate-level statistics or equivalent, and three or more years applying it to markets, sports or forecasting.
- Python, pandas, gradient boosting; you know what a game-clustered bootstrap is for and when a paired test is wrong.
- You have killed your own result before. You will be asked about it.
- Sportsbook pricing or trading experience.
- Familiarity with nflverse or comparable sports data.
Equity potential of 0.1% – 0.5%, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff. Salary is discussed individually with each applicant and is not published. Remote, with availability on NFL game days.

- Write the help center and keep the how-to-read-a-pick page true to the product.
